Easy Ghee

Ghee is perfect for enhancing the flavours of your cooking, especially Indian foods! You can use ghee to sautee, fry spices, or drizzle on those veggies at the end of cooking. With its delicious butter-nut flavour, it's also delicious for baked goods, frying up pancakes or any sweet pastry that needs some brushing.

  • 1 Medium-sized Pot
  • 1 Cheesecloth
  • 1 Sieve


  • 450 Grams Unsalted Butter ( Quantity doesn't matter, make as much as you want! )


  • Place a medium saucepan on the stove over medium heat.
  • Turn the heat on medium and add desired quantity of unsalted butter to the pot.

  • Allow the butter to melt completely. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until milk solids separate and turn golden brown. Stirring the butter occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and let the ghee cool for a few minutes.
  • Line a sieve with cheesecloth over a bowl or jar. Pour the melted ghee through the cheesecloth to strain out milk solids.
  • Discard the milk solids gathered in the cheesecloth.


Note: Store the ghee in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 6 months or at room temperature for up to 6 weeks.
